Camera pleads case to commission
Brian Engle, 5/15/12
Former Lorain Streets Superintendent Chuck Camera now awaits word from a civil service commission which heard his appeal on Monday that he should be returned to his job. Camera was fired following his conviction that he stole $10,000 from the Lorain Youth Baseball Association, of which he had been it's President. While he denies he stole any money and blames the money shortage on his poor bookkeeping, Camera has been ordered to repay the money. He told the panel that his financial errors with the baseball organization had nothing to do with his job, although he admits he likely has lost public trust. A decision is expected next Monday (5/21).

State wants to offer online classes to get drivers license

Darryl Maynard, 5/15/2012

Lawmakers want to offer online classes as an option, instead of going to an actual classroom. Drivings schools oppose the change, saying it would hurt their business and could lead to more cheating.

He and the school board have already announced more than 180 layoffs and program eliminations that'll occurr at the end of the current academic year next month. Those cuts chopped the projected $12 million budget deficit down to about $5 million.
